Adichie Paraphrase

Summarizing and paraphrasing are both very similar, but each have different effects when used in writing. A summary is a short explanation of the refeerenced text which can include the author’s own words. It’s used in order to condense a larger piece of writing into a shorter piece, including only the key details and the big picture ideas. These are important to include so that the audience, no matter who it is, is able to fully understand the basis behind the claim which is being made. Paraphrasing is different in the fact that the writer is using a quote from the original author and rewording it in order to get across the same message. Although a summary is usually shorter than the original text, paraphrasing is often the same length as the original quote. Paraphrasing also implies citing, while summaries don’t always have to be cited. Paraphrasing also gives the writer room to include their own opinion about the piece that they are pulling from. On the other hand summarizing is non biased and therefore does not include the writer’s personal opinion.
