Journal 5

Dear Dr. Ignatieff,

Throughout the past few years Flavortown has been suffering from a dramatic increase in the amount of orphaned children, specifically within the black and brown population of our town. Flavortown is currently home to a very high percentage of black and brown families and children compared to surrounding cities. Over the past few years, the health of our city has significantly declined and as a result we have seen the ways that this has disproportionately affected people of color. In recent months we have been dealing with overcrowded orphanages and not enough people willing to foster, and our ability to continue our battle with this issue depends on more funding.

This April we will be holding our Fifteenth Anniversary of Serve the Sauce, an event raising money to help better support the foster care system within our community and give all children an equal opportunity at a successful future. At this year’s event we will be holding a discussion panel featuring a handful of the most influential activists in the field including those such as Riley Patenaude, Korin Griffin, and Victoria Boutin. We are currently looking to fill the last and final spot in our lineup for this event; that of our Keynote speaker.

We would like to humbly ask if you would be willing to take on this opportunity to come speak at this year’s Serve the Sauce event as our Keynote speaker. Not only will we include your name and photograph on our community wall to commemorate the event and your attendance, but it will also be publicized in our local and state newspapers and media outlets for others to view or attend virtually. We will also offer you a booth at our event where we will display your most recent publication and other merchandise for sale throughout the entirety of the event.

We know that we are asking a lot of you, as you are a very busy man. We truly believe that your attendance at our event would do so much for our community and our minority youth group. If you would like to do us the honor of speaking at our event we would love to hear from you! The event will take place on April 17th at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time outside of the Flavortown Town Hall. We have attached all related contact information as well as a return envelope so that you are able to respond with ease. Should you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at the provided phone number before April 1st.

Thank you for any consideration you may give us.

Sincerely,
Sheila Somersault
