Connecting the Parts

Although many people aren’t consciously aware of it, most of us go about our days thinking about the events that occur as they affect us or relate to us, rather than how they could simultaneously be affecting others around us.

Take for example a scenario of a drive through restaurant that gives everyone else in the car their correct order but accidentally switches your meal with the person in the car behind you.

At the same time that I believe that Wallace’s theories can be applicable to everyone, I also believe that they are much easier said than done.

However it is not the only way to react.

Once you are able to make this way of thinking a conscious thought, it is not as hard to try to put yourself in someone else’s shoes more often. In Michael Paterniti’s essay, “Eating Jack Hooker’s Cow” you are able to see the main character, Jack, taking part in the type of self centered thinking that Wallace warns about. However, over time there is a noticeable change in Jack’s ways of thinking.

After analyzing my essay I can see a lot of repetition in many of the main points that I talked about throughout the entirety of the essay, such as the way we think. I definitely have a tendency to repeat myself a lot during my essays and this is something that I have tried to work on. However, I think that in the last example that I attached, this repititon helps convey my point and reiterate my thesis. I also have noticed that “however” is probably one of my most used transitions, but in essay number two I saw myself using “although” quite a few times. There are some parts of my essay that are wordy and can get confusing so adding some clear transitions or pointing terms could possibly help make them more clear and concise.
