For the Sleepwalkers Poem

No less deserving

are the kids who grew

up to be adults, and realized

that they were made to be blamed

for all the wrong problems

The children who grew up

being the problem child but

feeling more like the family

problem

The parents who had to place

cement barricades around the

construction site of life they

were building, not to keep anyone

inside, but to protect their own babies

from the ones who taught those

which are no longer babies

If there’s one seed you can take

and nurture let it be this; you did

what was best for you and that is

what’s best for all

Showing up for yourself entails a lot

of showing up alone, but that is better

and more beautiful than backing down

Backlash doesn’t mean you are bad

and betrayal doesn’t mean you are abandoned.

Choosing you is the start of something new.

I’m proud of you.
