For my lone wolf speech I would like to focus on how to become a better version of my professional self. In trying to connect with the audience I hope to bring a sense of relatableness to my speech and begin by admitting that I chose this topic because I’m still in the process of figuring out how to build a solid professional identity myself. I’d like to connect with my audience over the stress and confusion that being in college brings, while also emphasizing that thinking about your professional identity and brand now will be beneficial in the future.

This topic is very relevant to me at this point in my life as I am currently working as a student intern within my field while also trying to figure out my own after school plans. As an intern, one thing that has been strongly emphasized thus far is that setting goals for your professional development is a valuable personal skill to have and something that employers want. Being at an age where you still aren’t certain of your future plans despite that they are often expected of you is a tough place to be. Hence my desire to explore this topic more in my speech.

Outline:
Introduction

Connect with the audience – introduce myself, briefly overview the topic I’m doing & explain why I chose it/why it’s important during college

Body

Basic outline of how to start building a professional identity – setting goals, looking up to others and modeling them, questioning your own brand in professional settings and in everyday life (explanation of professional identity and brand)

Conclusion

Reconnection with the audience – why you should listen to me and why it should matter to you
