Secret Stash Poem

Draft 1

A cold December morning,

I drive to come to you.

Parked

Sitting, waiting, clock is ticking

Time goes by and I wait for you.

Snow melts off the hood of the car as it warms and I watch for you.

Sitting, waiting, ticking

I text you

No response

Sitting, waiting, ticking

I call you

No response

No more sitting and waiting

Shaking, I choose me

Pulling out of the dart and onto the road I look ahead.

Draft 2

A frigid December morning,

I drive to go see you

My car rolls onto the frost covered rocky pull off and I park.

I sit and watch the clock tick,

Waiting for you.

Melting snow drips off the hood of the car,

But my eyes are locked on the road, waiting for you.

Fifteen minutes later and I text.

No response

Fifteen more and I call

No response

Fuck it.

No more sitting, no more waiting.

I choose me.

Pulling onto the road I look ahead.

Draft 3

A frigid December morning I drive to come see you.

The snow crunches below my tires as I drive up onto our rocky pull off spot.

I sit and watch the clock tick,

Waiting for you.

The melting snow drips off the hood of my warm car as I watch for you.

Fifteen minutes pass and I text. No response.

Fifteen more and I call. No response.

Fuck it. Fuck you.

Pulling onto the road I look ahead.
