This chapter provided me with some very helpful information about group presentations, and how to make them as clean and effective as possible. The chapter first mentioned the importance of having a group leader, a designated member responsible for the organization of the presentation, the introduction, conclusion, and leading the question and answer portion. The group leader can also take over on things like the ordering of presenters and what kind of technology will be used.
Despite having a group leader to guide the other members, this chapter also mentions the importance of cohesion throughout all members of the group during a presentation. This can be in the form of physical appearance and/or just the flow of the presentation itself. For example, each group member should be familiar with each section of the presentation in case they have to take over for another member. Additionally, everyone should participate in answering the audience’s questions, and everyone in the group should be knowledgeable before-hand about when it is or isn’t their time to speak.
This chapter also went into the importance of delivery, especially in a group presentation. All members of the group should appear to be both enthusiastic and well informed about the product and presentation, while not being overly excited or pushy. Group members should also be standing still and quietly in the background while the current speaker is speaking. As for the speaker, it goes without saying that they should be projecting their voice and making plenty of eye contact with the audience throughout the presentation as well as during the Q & A section afterwards.
