I wanted it to feel warm and comforting, like something you would crack open on a Sunday afternoon and read on your couch wrapped in a blanket with a cup of coffee in your hand. Because of this, the way that I wanted my book to appear seemed obvious to me. Unsurprisingly, this process did not go as easily as I had hoped or anticipated, which made me reevaluate and get creative at many points throughout the process. Despite the struggles that I had during the bookmaking process I was still able to use different methods of creativity that I had never done before such as staining the pages with tea, and even just working creatively with washi tape. Ironically, the things that I hadn’t initially planned to include in my book such as the wood texture and the poem printed and cut into wonky shapes came to be my favorite once all was said and done. My hope for this book was that even for people who don’t feel the same way about their coffee as I do about mine, when they’re flipping through the pages of my book, they can feel a sense of what I feel through my creation and hopefully allow it to remind them of something, possibly inanimate, that they feel as passionately about.
