Every day and every night
I watch her tend to her little forests
Working hard to create a life from scratch,
and pushing the babes to grow grow grow
From the first day they make it into the ground,
My mind is set on only one thing
I watch patiently from my spot in the corner,
waiting for the moment I can
Bolt from my burrow
Scurry across the hills ahead
And perch my two paws up on the green
Just enough so that I can snag my treat off of the stem,
and roll it along the way
As soon as I’m headed down the last hill
Ready for the home stretch
The loud SMACK of the wooden door rattles behind me
And startles me back into hiding
All my hard work and patience and it’s going to waste
I watch from inside as she walks by
Please don’t take it
Please don’t take it
Please don’t take it
She stops
She looks
She keeps walking
