During Friday’s class we got to look at two other group’s handbooks and provide feedback to the teams through peer review. We also had our handbook looked at by two of the groups and received some helpful feedback about things that are working for our handbook and things that could be improved upon. I found it helpful to look through other group’s projects because we were able to gain even more ideas about how we can improve our site in its functionality and usability by seeing what the other teams did. I think one of the most valuable contributions that I made during Friday’s class was telling people to proofread their work. Although this seems like a small thing, I find that when written text has spelling and grammar errors people are less likely to trust you or continue reading what you have to say. The simple act of proofreading for any spelling or grammatical errors in the written portions of this project can really help to polish it up and make it a quality resource for incoming students. One thing that surprised me during our peer review was how different each handbook really was. Because of the nature of the assignment I figured everyone’s sites would be more similar and would repeat a lot of the same information. Although many of us had similar big lessons, the resource and testimonial section of each group’s book were unique to the members of that group, and I found that I really enjoyed looking through everyone’s sites because of this.
