Reflecting on our first group project now that it is complete, I can say that it was fun to work as a part of a group on something that had so many different components to it. At first the project seemed overwhelming, but with each group member contributing in different ways it was able to come together pretty well in the end. I think that working independently in between class time was something that worked really well for my group as soon as we got comfortable communicating with each other and found a way to divide the work evenly among the group. Some advice that I would give to people completing this project in the future would be to start early by dividing the work into manageable chunks for everyone. Doing this at the beginning will allow all group members to maximize their time inside and outside of class. During class you won’t have to waste time figuring out who is doing what for next time and instead you can check in regarding what everyone has accomplished and decide what can be worked on collaboratively during class time. It will also allow each member to have a reasonable amount of time to schedule/hold interviews and complete their section of the work.
If I were to do this project over again I would definitely take more time to seek out a variety of resources to include in our handbook. Although I think the ones that we chose were important, there was a lot of overlap between the resources that each group chose to present on. As soon as I started to work on this project and pay more attention to the resources that we have on campus I noticed so many more that could’ve been highlighted as well. I also believe that doing this would’ve helped to differentiate our group’s handbook from the other similar products.
